Year at a glance

     Zawadi Cultural Collective in conjunction with Black In The Valley have variety of social and educational programs planned for the 25/26 year.  Here's a list of events.  Please check back for updates on times and locations:
Zawadi Food Distribution
Every Saturday
10am - 12pm 
(While supplies last)

 Each week, Zawadi Cultural Collective provides healthy, nutritious food to individuals and families in need throughout the community. Our distribution includes fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, dairy products, breads, and a variety of prepackaged and frozen goods. Through this effort, we aim to reduce food insecurity, promote wellness, and ensure that every family has access to balanced, nourishing meals. The D9 will support the distribution though out the month of November. 
- 11/8 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., will serve as volunteers.
- 11/15 Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will serve as volunteers.
- 11/22 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will serve as volunteers.  Omega will also giveaway 50 turkeys to the community.
-11/29 The brothers of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. will give their support to the distribution

​We're celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Granada Hills community by representing with at least 100 attendees with help from our supporting organizations.  Join us as we march with the Zawadi Scouts, the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, Mocha Moms and the rest of the D9 as we march to show our unity and strength within the Valley communities.   
 
Kwanzaa Celebration

Led by the Zawadi Scouts, this festive program features inspiring cultural performances, live musical entertainment, and a vibrant vendor marketplace showcasing local artisans and entrepreneurs. Together, we celebrate unity, heritage, and the spirit of community that continues to uplift and empower us all.

Women's Empowerment & Vision Board Party
January 17, 2026

Zawadi Cultural Collective invites you to our Women’s Empowerment & Vision Board Party, a day dedicated to uplifting, inspiring, and restoring women in our community. This dynamic event features powerful speakers, panelists, and activists who share tools and strategies for personal growth, mental wellness, and empowerment. As attendees create their own vision boards, they’ll be guided through moments of reflection, goal-setting, and self-discovery. To nurture the mind, body, and spirit, the event also includes rejuvenating activities such as massages and sound baths — creating a holistic experience of healing, empowerment, and sisterhood.

Black History Month Celebration
Black Business Mixer

Join Zawadi Cultural Collective for our Black Business Mixer, an evening designed to connect, empower, and celebrate Black entrepreneurs. This networking event offers business owners the opportunity to socialize with peers, exchange ideas, and build meaningful partnerships. A panel of financial advisors from both government and corporate sectors will share valuable insights on funding opportunities, financial growth, and strategies to strengthen business models for long-term success and sustainability.

HBCU Step Show
February 21, 2026

All members of the Divine Nine are invited to take the stage and showcase their powerful, synchronized step routines — both traditional and modern — in celebration of their rich history, culture, and brotherhood/sisterhood. This vibrant showcase honors the legacy, pride, and unity of historically Black fraternities and sororities through rhythm, movement, and tradition.

Black Business Scavenger Hunt

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure with Zawadi Cultural Collective’s Black Business Scavenger Hunt — a fun, interactive competition that takes you all across the San Fernando Valley! Using a series of clever clues, teams will race to discover local Black-owned businesses, snapping selfies, performing jingles, and completing creative challenges along the way. Whether you’re teaming up with family, friends, co-workers, or collaborators, you’ll enjoy a day full of laughter, surprises, and community spirit — all for the chance to win a cash prize! Celebrate unity, creativity, and local entrepreneurship in this exciting day of discovery and fun.

Women's History Month Tea

Join Zawadi Cultural Collective for a beautiful celebration of womanhood during Women’s History Month. This uplifting event honors local women for their outstanding leadership, achievements, and contributions to the community. Guests will enjoy an afternoon of inspiration, connection, and empowerment while savoring a delightful tea tasting and light brunch. Together, we celebrate the strength, grace, and brilliance of women who continue to lead and inspire change.

Youth Community Service Day
April 11, 2026
9am - 11:30am

Zawadi Cultural Collective invites all youth and teens to take part in Youth Community Service Day — a meaningful opportunity to give back and make a difference. Volunteers will join our weekly Food Distribution, helping to fight food insecurity by providing fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy to families in need. Together, we’re building compassion, leadership, and a stronger, healthier community — one act of service at a time.

Kidprenuer Business Academy
May 9, 2026
12pm - 5pm

Zawadi Cultural Collective presents the Kidpreneur Business Academy, a dynamic 4-hour program designed to spark the entrepreneurial spirit in today’s youth. Geared for ages 10–18, participants will learn how to turn their ideas into real businesses by developing concepts, structures, and strategies for success. Guided by a team of experienced mentors from diverse professional backgrounds, youth will explore business planning, product development, marketing, and more — gaining the tools and confidence to bring their vision to life.

Zawadi Prom
June 12, 2026

The Zawadi Prom is a festive social celebration honoring the accomplishments of high school juniors and seniors. This special event gives youth the chance to celebrate with their peers in a fun, safe, and uplifting environment. Featuring a celebrity host, exciting giveaways, and a scholarship component, the Zawadi Prom recognizes achievement while creating lasting memories for the next generation of leaders.

9th Annual Juneteenth Community Celebration
June 20, 2026

Our 9th annual Juneteenth Celebration.  Bring a blanket, your lawn chairs and the family for a celebration "family reunion" style.  Enjoy performers and music while shopping at one of over 100 vendors at our marketplace.  Grab you something to eat from one of our food vendors or participate in one of our interactive games.  We will be honoring our community leaders, volunteers and student graduates.  It’s a day of fun that you wouldn't want to miss.

ZAWADI SCOUTS 3246

​A Girl Scout troop specifically for girls of color designed to develop self-awareness, pride and to promote positive role models for young girls.  The program runs from September to June.  For more information click the link to visit our site.

WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT & VISION BOARD SUMMIT

A women’s empowerment event held in January designed to promote self-love and self-care to women.  In addition to the vision board component the program features guest speakers, a panel discussion, a product swap, giveaways and other services geared to relaxation of the mind and body.

​JUNETEENTH COMMUNITY CELEBRATION

​An event to commemorate the emancipation from
slavery on June 19th, 1865.  Geared towards bringing together the African American Valley community for an afternoon of fellowship and fun.  The event features music, family activities, sports, water play, a book fair, an essay scholarship program, vendors and a Kidpreneur Korner.

ZAWADI LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

 A leadership program for boys and girls of color.  Lead by prominent men and women in the community, this program is designed to give youth the tools that they need to become productive leaders in society.  Each year the program is centered on a theme that is supported by a number of activities and guest speakers.      

BLACK IN THE VALLEY MARKETPLACE

A quarterly marketplace designed to support the community
while building financial security for small businesses in the
area.  The Marketplace is held every March, June, September
and December.  It features over 50 local vendors showcasing
their products and services to the public.   

KIDPRENEUR BUSINESS ACADEMY

 A 4 hour program designed to foster the creativity and entrepreneurial spirt in today's youth.  A team of business professionals will guide our young entrepreneurs through the steps needed to become business owners.  They will take their ideal from concept to realization, completing the necessary paperwork required to start a business and launching their business at our Juneteenth Community Celebration.                          


ZAWADI FOOD DISTRIBUTION

A weekly Food Distribution service designed to provide 
underserved communities of the San Fernando Valley access to good quality food.  It's held every Saturday morning from 10am until supplies last.  Meats, produce, fish, dairy, bread and prepackaged meals are all made available to the public for free.
